It is said that the Dutch rulers started dividing Sri Lanka into up country and low country in order to divide the Sri Lankans and thereby facilitate the administration.The Kandyan dance tradition which spreads throughout the Kandyan areas such as Kandy, Udinuwara,Yatinuwara, Dumbara, Harispattuwa, Satkoralaya, Satarakoralaya which are known as the Kandyan areas of Sri Lanka can be called as Kandyandancetradition.  Kandy Arts (Anuradhapura District) Not only Polonnaruwa and Uva Wellassa but also the Kandyan Dance Tradition is one of the most popular and popular traditions in Sri Lanka today.


The main instrument of this tradition is the knot drum, which features traditional singing styles that include a variety of melodies.  Also known as the Kandyan drum and the wedding drum, it is used as an instrument to be remembered during auspicious auspicious occasions.


Kohomba Yak Kankariya Shantikarmaya is one of the main rituals performed in the Kandyan dance tradition.  You can also see peace ceremonies such as Kadawara Kankariya,an keliya,gini keliya and Valiyak Mangalyaya.


The Kandyan period can be named as one of the most important periods in which the Kandyan dance tradition became popular. If the palace is considered to have originated from the associated poetic hut, it was a time when shrungaraya shri namaya rathnalankaraya , Hatan kawi, pantheru kawi, Udakki singing and dancing became more prevalent.  In addition to thanuwa, the thanama ,the kawiya, the kasthirama and adawwa of the dance are all unique to the Kandyan tradition.


Kohomba kankariya is the main ritual of Kandyan dance and the main costume is the wess costume.  The gatabera is the main instrument.  The Kandyan dance of 12 pa saraba and 12 goda saraba and consists of 18 beautiful wannm dances and 4 wattam dances.


There are also a large number of classical dances. Among them are Ves dance, Udakki dance, Pantheru dance, Awanduma, Yakthun Padaya, Kuveni Asne, Mangalam dance, seven verses (Kothala Padaya, Bulath Padaya ...) etc.  Can see ..

 The Kandyan dance tradition can be described as a very valuable art rich in dance, singing and playing.
