Sabaragamu dance in sri lanka..

This dance tradition is most prevalent in Ratnapura, Kalawana, Pelmadulla and Balangoda areas of the Sabaragamuwa Province.  It is one of the oldest and most captivating dances of the national culture and is restricted to this area.  The dawula, a cylindrical drum, is the main instrument of this tradition.

Sabaragamuwa dance art is based on the dance basics of 05 mathras.

01. Mul mathraya

02. Sindu mathraya

03. Gaman mathraya

04. Yakpadha mathraya

05.Nadagam mathraya

Also, in order to complete one dance, 07 points have to be completed and they are as follows.

1.  Thanama

2. Mathraya

3. Kawiya

 4. Wattama

5. Kalasama

 Sabaragamuwa dance performances

 1. Dances related to religious ceremonies performed in temples and shrines.

There are dances of all five levels. These dances are performed during the Dhatu Perahera, the procession of the Maha Sangha, the procession of the Esala Perahera and the procession of "panmadu, puna madu, dewol, Gam madu, Gii madu, Kirimadu, Halum madu".

 2. News of seeking peace from new planets.

This includes sacrifices made to ward off planetary errors, god errors, devil errors, dream errors, and so on.  Here, the original syllable, the syllable syllable, and the syllables, syllables, and syllables belonging to the syllable syllable are also essential.

 3. Threats to ward off evil spirits and demons.

Yakpada and Nadagam dances are the most popular forms of dance used to ward off evil spirits.  But sometimes the melody is also used.

 4. Fun dances for weddings.

There is no dosage rule for this case.  Dances of all five levels are offered as desired.  Singing dances are special here.

Sabaragamuwa dancer's clothes

For the sacrificial rites, a white sari and a red cloth are tied around the waist, and a navaguna vila is worn.  He wears a turban on his head, kadukkam on his ears, bandhi waalu on his hands, akmini on one hand and arecanut flowers on the other.  The specialty here is that God creates something similar to a garment.  There also seems to be a specialty in the two rahu kuttams that tie to the foot.  It also requires a lot of physical strength to dance with a large number of legs.  Due to this, the size of the rahu has gradually decreased and decreased in size over time.
