Worship of traditional dances in Sri Lanka.

This worship is performed before and after the dance begins.  It is practiced in that order as a sign of respect for the Lord Buddha, God, parents and teachers and the dancer recites a short chant.  When the dancers touch the ground, with their hands first on the head, forehead then on the chest, they sing the following:

  • Kandiyan dance (namaskaraya)

Theyiyath theyiyath theyiyath tham

Theyiyath theyiyath theyiyath tham

Theyiyath theyiyath theyiyath tham

  • Low country dance (namaskaraya)

Gaddirikita gundirikita gathath gathath dhom gath dhahim

Gaddirikita gundirikita gathath gathath dhom gath dhahim
