Great cultural dalada festival in Sri Lanka.
Esala is believed to be a fusion of the Esala and the Dalada Perahera. BC The Esala Perahera, which dates back to the 3rd century, is a ritual to ask the gods for rain. AD It is believed that the 'Dalada Perahera' began in the 4th century, 800 years after the arrival of the Supreme Buddha's Pirinivan, when the sacred tooth relics of the Buddha were brought to Sri Lanka from Dambadiva .According to tradition, the relics known by Princess Hemamala and the Tooth Prince were brought to Sri Lanka.
Kandy Sri Dalada Perahera Started during the reign of the King Kirthi Sri Rajasinghe (1747 – 1781 AD). During those times, the Tooth Relic was considered private property of the King and the public never got a chance to worship it.
The Parade on street for 10 days 1st to 4th days are called “Kumbal Perahera” 5th day is the final day of “Kumbal Perahera” locales are called “Awasan Kumbal Perahera”. Next four days named as “Randoli Perahera” & the final day is the grand parade of the Kandy Sri Dalada Perahera which is called “Awasan Randoli Maha Perahera”.
The festival is organized by the Temple of the Tooth and the four great temples. The most popular part of the Esala Festival which begins on the Esala Poya Day is the Perahera Festival held in the month of Nikini. This festival has become a unique symbol of Sri Lanka. This is a Buddhist festival with dances and precious elephants. It includes fireball dances, whip dancers, upcountry dances and various other cultural dances. The festival concludes with the traditional Nikini Fifteen Day Water Cutting Festival.

This is a great Sinhala cultural festival which includes dancing, singing and singing.The Senkadagala Perahera is a traditional annual festival held in Kandy, Sri Lanka.
